About South Park

Although officially established in 1870, major development of South Park didn’t begin until around 1905 with the extension of the street car service into the area. Known today for its tree-lined streets and pedestrian lifestyle, this historical district of San Diego is home to a unique mix of Craftsman and Spanish Colonial Style homes built between 1905 and 1930. The rest of this predominantly single family residence area is composed of smaller duplexes, apartment buildings, and bungalow courts and is inhabited by a very diverse, dynamic population.

South Park is largely a pedestrian area, with an increasing number of specialty shops and restaurants. 30th Street is the main hub of activity, with most of its commercial business taking place on or around this thoroughfare. This engaging community is also home to the annual Old House Fair, an outdoor market of home furnishings, and the quarterly community Walkabouts with live music, entertainment, and late night shopping.
